Click-On Kaduna Data Science Fellowship Programme 2026/2027 — Six-Month Paid Fellowship for Kaduna Residents

If you're a Kaduna State resident interested in data science, artificial intelligence, and using data to solve real public-sector problems, the Click-On Kaduna Data Science Fellowship Programme (DSFP) is one of Nigeria's most respected, long-running state government initiatives — and applications are open right now.

Applications are open for the 2026/2027 Click-On Kaduna Data Science Fellowship Programme. The programme will select 40 fellows and train them in data science, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Participants will also use real government data to solve public-sector problems in Kaduna State.

This is Africa's leading state-government-backed data science fellowship — funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, implemented by the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) and the Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation (NFTI), and now heading into its sixth cohort since launching in 2020.

What Is the Click-On Kaduna Data Science Fellowship?

The Data Science Fellowship Programme is part of the Kaduna State Data Revolution Plan, aimed at strengthening the coordination in the collection and use of data for evidence-based decision-making. It's part of a broader 5-year Kaduna State Data Lab Project, jointly implemented by the Kaduna State Government, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and NFTI.

Fellows work closely with the Amina J. Mohammed SDGs Data Lab under KDBS, and with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) — especially the State Ministry of Health — to support data-coordinating efforts with real societal impact.

Track record: Since its inception in 2020, the programme has trained over 190 alumni, many of whom now serve as data analysts, project managers, researchers, and decision-support officers within the Kaduna State Government and beyond — with several becoming global ambassadors for data-driven development, collaborating with international organizations worldwide. The previous cohort (DSFP 5.0) received over 5,400 applications, making it the most competitive edition to date.

What Does the Programme Offer?

Selected fellows will receive:

- Practical training in data science and emerging technologies

- Six months of paid internship experience

- Training from more than 30 instructors, mentors, and industry experts

- Opportunities to work with government data and policymakers

- Real experience solving public-sector problems

- Support to build a portfolio of practical projects

- Membership in a community of over 190 programme alumni

The programme structure typically combines intensive classroom-based training with a hands-on paid internship placement.

Is This a Grant or a Loan?

Neither — this is a paid fellowship/training programme, not a grant or loan. Fellows receive a stipend during their six-month paid internship phase, alongside structured training, mentorship, and real project experience — with no repayment obligation.

Why This One Checks Out

This is one of the most credibly verified opportunities available:

- Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation — a globally recognized philanthropic institution

- Implemented directly by the Kaduna State Government through KDBS

- A genuine track record spanning six years and 190+ alumni

- Extensively covered by credible sources, including Daily Trust, official KDBS and NFTI social channels, and multiple opportunity-listing platforms

- A real, demonstrated impact pipeline — alumni now work as data analysts, researchers, and decision-support officers in government and international organizations

Tips for a Strong Application

Make Your Statement of Purpose Specific — With only 350 words, be precise about your STEM background and exactly why data-driven public policy interests you — avoid generic statements.

Use Your Two-Minute Video Wisely — This is your chance to show personality and genuine motivation beyond what's on paper — prepare and rehearse rather than recording spontaneously.

Highlight Relevant STEM Coursework or Experience — Since eligible fields span statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, and health-related disciplines, connect your specific background clearly to data science.

Apply Early Given the Competition — With over 5,400 applicants in the last cohort for around 40-45 spots, a complete, polished, early application matters.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

- Applying from outside Kaduna State — residency is a firm requirement.

- Exceeding the 350-word Statement of Purpose limit.

- Submitting a generic video that doesn't reflect genuine interest in data science and public service.

- Applying without a STEM background or related field experience.

- Missing the account activation step after initial registration.
