InnovateX 2026 — Ecobank's ₦20 Million Hackathon for Nigerian Tertiary Students

If you're a Nigerian tertiary student passionate about building real solutions in banking, technology, business, or society, InnovateX 2026 is a well-backed, verified opportunity worth entering.

This year, InnovateX brings together the country's sharpest young minds — students, tinkerers, dreamers, and doers from tertiary institutions nationwide — to build real solutions for real challenges in banking, technology, business, and society. With mentorship from industry leaders, hands-on bootcamps, and funding to match the ambition, InnovateX isn't just where ideas get pitched — it's where ideas come to life.

The initiative is run by Ecobank, the Pan-African bank, in partnership with Heave Ventures — the same organizers behind past InnovateX editions that reached young talents aged 16–25 across the Creatives and STEM sectors, with a combined ₦20 million prize pool.

What Is InnovateX?

InnovateX is Ecobank's initiative to shape the future of African enterprise, equipping young creators and innovators with practical tools and opportunities to transform their passion into scalable impact. It's structured as more than a standard competition — it's a full development platform offering hybrid bootcamps, expert-led pitching and business workshops, mentorship, international exposure, and a chance to pitch at a high-profile grand finale.

The programme is also integrated with the Ecobank Blaze Account, the bank's youth-centered banking product, giving participants access to smart banking features, financial education, and career resources throughout the competition and beyond.

Choose Your Challenge Track

InnovateX 2026 runs two competition tracks:

Track A — Inclusive Finance

- Credit Solutions for Youths

- Fraud Detection & Prevention Innovation

- Financial Inclusion Solutions

- Payment Innovation

- Gaming/Loyalty

- Customer Experience Enhancement

Track B — Creative Economy

- Education

- Entertainment & Creator Economy

- Service Hub

- Social Innovation

- E-Commerce

- Transport and Logistics

How Much Can You Win?

Total prize pool: ₦20 million, shared among the top 10 participants, alongside recognition and growth opportunities from Ecobank and its partners.

Is This a Grant or a Prize?

This is a competitive hackathon/pitch competition, not a straightforward grant. Prize funding is awarded to the top-performing participants after going through bootcamps, mentorship, and a final pitching stage — not distributed to everyone who registers.

Who Can Apply?

- Nigerian tertiary institution students — nationwide, not limited to any specific region

- Individuals passionate about innovation, business, and creativity

- Based on the programme's prior youth-focused framing, applicants are generally expected to fall within a youth age bracket (confirm exact current age range on the official portal, as prior editions targeted ages 16–25)

What You Need Before Applying

1. A Chosen Competition Track — Decide between Inclusive Finance (Track A) or Creative Economy (Track B) before registering.

2. A Specific Challenge Focus — Within your chosen track, identify which specific challenge area you're building a solution for.

3. Personal and Institutional Details — Standard registration information, including your tertiary institution.

4. A Real Idea or Prototype — Since bootcamps and mentorship build toward a grand finale pitch, come with a genuine concept you're ready to develop.

Important Notes

- This is a legitimate, well-backed programme — confirmed by Ecobank's own launch statements and multiple credible Nigerian business news outlets (Proshare, Radarr Africa).

- InnovateX also connects participants to the Ecobank Blaze Account, offering perks like a free debit card and free monthly NIP transfers as part of the wider youth banking experience.

- Since this is Ecobank's second known edition of InnovateX, confirm the current specific deadline, exact age eligibility, and full terms directly on the official portal, as these details may be refined from the prior 2025 edition.

Tips for a Strong Entry

Pick the Track That Fits Your Strengths — Choose Inclusive Finance if your solution is banking/fintech-focused, or Creative Economy if it's centered on education, entertainment, e-commerce, or social innovation.

Be Specific Within Your Challenge Area — Rather than a broad idea, focus your solution tightly on one specific challenge (e.g., fraud detection, not "fintech" generally).

Engage Fully With Bootcamps and Mentorship — Since the programme is designed to develop your idea over time (not just judge a single pitch), active participation throughout likely strengthens your final showing.

Prepare for the Grand Finale Pitch Early — Start thinking about how you'll present your solution clearly and confidently to a high-profile panel.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

- Registering without a clear team or idea direction.

- Choosing a track that doesn't match your solution's actual focus.

- Skipping bootcamp/mentorship engagement and only showing up for the final pitch.

- Assuming the ₦20 million goes to one winner — it's shared among the top 10 participants.

- Missing the registration deadline — confirm the exact date on the official portal.
