Project TAT AI Innovation Challenge 2026 — Apply to Transform Nigerian Agriculture With AI

If you are building anything at the intersection of technology and agriculture, whether it is a software model, a hardware prototype or even a well-developed concept, this challenge is worth your attention.

The Project TAT AI Innovation Challenge 2026 is an open call for teams building AI and deep tech solutions for Nigeria's agricultural sector. Selected teams win cash prizes, incubation support and a live pitch slot at Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2026 in November. Applications close July 10, 2026.

What is Project TAT AI?

Project TAT AI stands for Transforming Agriculture Through Artificial Intelligence. It is an initiative by the Ibom Innovation Network designed to move Nigerian agriculture beyond traditional methods and into the era of data-driven, AI-powered farming.

The challenge is not looking for basic apps or generic software ideas. It is specifically focused on hard tech and deep tech solutions;  robotics, IoT systems, precision agriculture tools, autonomous systems and AI-driven approaches that address real problems in Nigerian farming at scale.

The initiative was formally launched in May 2026 through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by six institutions including the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State University, the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Technology Incubation Centre Uyo. What sets it apart is a deliberate "Lab-to-Land" philosophy, every innovation developed must be tested and proven on actual farms, not just in laboratories.

What You Can Win

Cash prizes; substantial amounts awarded live on stage at Demo Day on November 6, 2026

Incubation and technical acceleration ; an intensive programme to refine your technical architecture, business model and deployment strategy

Grand Finale at Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2026:  pitch live to regional leaders, venture capitalists and corporate partners

Real-sector deployment support ; commercialisation pathways, regulatory sandbox access and pilot environments to test your solution at scale

Equity-free ; all funding and support comes without giving up ownership of your business

The specific cash prize amounts are not publicly listed but will be announced on stage at the Demo Day finale in November.

Who Can Apply

The challenge accepts submissions at three levels:

Robust conceptual ideas - a well-developed concept with clear thinking and research

Software MVPs - working software models demonstrating your solution

Hardware prototypes - functional physical prototypes

Important: Applications must be submitted by teams of exactly 3 people with complementary technical and business skills. You cannot apply alone or as a team of 2 or 4. Form your team before applying.

Focus Areas

The challenge is looking for solutions that address critical challenges in:

  • Productivity ; how to help Nigerian farmers produce more with less
  • Automation ; reducing dependence on manual labour through robotics and AI
  • Tech-enabled farming ; precision agriculture, smart storage, IoT monitoring, crop health tracking, autonomous harvesting
  • Post-harvest loss reduction - one of the biggest problems bleeding Nigerian farmers dry

2. Pitch Video;  a video presenting your idea, team and approach

Both must be submitted before the deadline through the InnoX platform.

How Your Application Will Be Evaluated

| Criteria | Weight |

| Team and Capability | 15% |

| Presentation and Clarity | 15% |

Innovation and impact together make up 50% of your score. Your solution needs to be genuinely novel and show clear potential to transform real farming conditions in Nigeria, not just a rehash of existing technology.

Insider Tips for a Strong Application

  • Form the right team first; the rules are strict: exactly 3 people with complementary skills. You need someone technical, someone with domain knowledge in agriculture and someone who can communicate and pitch. Gaps in your team will show in the evaluation
  • Lead with impact; innovation and impact together are 50% of your score. Before explaining how your solution works, make the reviewer feel the weight of the problem it solves. How many Nigerian farmers are affected? What does it cost them? How does your solution change that?
  • Be specific about the Nigerian contextgeneric AI farming solutions exist globally. What makes yours work in Nigerian conditions — the heat, the humidity, the infrastructure gaps, the smallholder farm sizes? Address this directly
  • Your pitch video matters as much as your concept note ; 15% of your score is presentation and clarity. A clear, well-structured video where the team speaks confidently about their solution can separate you from better-conceived but poorly-presented ideas
  • Show feasibility honestly; 20% of your score is about whether your plan is realistic. Do not overpromise. Show a clear, step-by-step execution path with realistic timelines and honest assessment of what resources you need

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying as an individual or team that is not exactly 3 people, your application will be disqualified
  • Submitting a software idea that is not connected to a real agricultural problem, this challenge is specifically about the agricultural sector
  • Making your concept note too long and your pitch video too vague, keep the concept note focused and let the video bring it to life
  • Copying existing solutions without showing what is genuinely different about yours, innovation is 25% of your score
  • Leaving your application until July 10 , the screening starts July 11, which means early complete submissions get processed smoothly
