If you are building a startup in Africa and you have been looking for a room with real investors, corporate leaders and ecosystem experts — this is that room.

Africa Fintech Foundry's Pitch Friday is open for the July 2026 edition and applications close July 31. Selected startups pitch live on Zoom before a panel of investors and gain admission into a 12-month growth programme backed by one of Africa's most credible fintech ecosystems.

What is AFF Pitch Friday?

Pitch Friday is Africa Fintech Foundry's flagship startup showcase — a year-round programme that discovers and supports innovative African startups building scalable solutions to the continent's most pressing challenges.

Africa Fintech Foundry is backed by Access Bank, one of Africa's largest financial institutions, which means the investor and corporate connections you access through this programme carry real weight. This is not a student competition or a local pitch event. It is a serious platform that has supported some of Africa's most promising early-stage companies.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. The July 2026 edition pitches are happening on Zoom on July 31, 2026 at 10am.

What You Get If Selected

Selection into Pitch Friday is not just about the pitch itself. Every selected startup gains admission into the AFF Startup Ecosystem, a 12-month tailored support programme that includes:

- Mentorship from experienced founders and industry experts

  • Strategic advisory support for your business model and growth strategy
  • Direct connections to investors actively looking to deploy capital
  • Corporate partnership opportunities — including potential partnerships within the Access Bank ecosystem
  • Visibility across Africa's fintech and innovation community
  • Access to the broader Africa Fintech Foundry network spanning multiple African countries

12 months of structured support from a programme backed by Access Bank is genuinely significant. Most accelerators in Nigeria offer 3 months. This is a year-long relationship.

Who Should Apply

Pitch Friday is open to African startups — not just Nigerian ones — building scalable solutions to real problems on the continent. If your startup is early-stage, has a working product or MVP, and you are serious about growth and investment, this is the right room.

You do not need to be in fintech specifically. AFF supports startups across sectors as long as the solution is scalable and addresses a real African challenge.

Insider Tips for a Strong Application

- Lead with the problem ;not the product ; AFF is looking for startups solving real African challenges. Before you describe what you built, make the panel feel the weight of the problem you are addressing. How many people are affected? What does it cost them? Why has it not been solved yet?

- Show traction ; investors across Africa have heard thousands of ideas. What separates you is evidence. Paying customers, active users, revenue, partnerships, pilot results — any proof that the idea works in the real world makes your pitch significantly stronger

- Know your numbers; how much have you made? How much does it cost to acquire a customer? What is your growth rate? Founders who know their metrics cold communicate confidence. Founders who don't know their numbers lose credibility immediately

- Be specific about what you need ; when the panel asks what you are looking for, have a clear answer. A specific funding amount with a specific use plan is more compelling than "we are open to any support"

- Apply now, not on July 30 ; applications are open now and the July edition is your nearest opportunity. Submit early while reviewers have full attention

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  •  Pitching an idea with no evidence it works - you need at least early validation before Pitch Friday
  •  Spending too much time on your background and not enough on the business
  •  Being vague about your business model - how exactly do you make money?
  •  Not researching AFF before your pitch - know who they are, what they have backed and how your startup fits their ecosystem
  •  Underestimating the Zoom format - dress professionally, test your audio and video beforehand, have your pitch deck ready to share
