What is NANSInnovate 2026?

NANSInnovate 2026 is a national summit organised by the NANS Headquarters to find and support the students already running businesses across Nigeria's tertiary institutions. A lot of students are quietly building real businesses on the side. This is a chance to bring them into one room with investors, mentors and industry leaders — and let the best ideas compete for actual funding to grow.

The programme runs for a week covering learning sessions, networking opportunities and one-on-one mentorship. It ends with a national pitch competition where the top 20 student entrepreneurs compete for transparent funding to grow their businesses.

This is not a seminar you attend to receive a certificate. It is a real competition with real investors and real funding on the table.

What You Get

All participants gain access to:

- National Pitch : Top 20 finalists pitch on stage for business funding before investors and industry leaders

- Networking : meet investors, industry leaders and other student founders from across all 36 states and FCT

- Mentorship : one-on-one guidance from people who have built real businesses

- Funding: transparent prizes for the strongest businesses at the final pitch

Who Can Apply

You qualify if you meet all of these:

- Currently enrolled at any recognised Nigerian university, polytechnic or college of education

- Have a business idea you want to launch or an existing business you are already running

- Have a valid student ID card — current and not expired

- Are a Nigerian citizen from any of the 36 states or FCT

- Can prepare a business proposal document in Word format

Both new ideas and existing businesses are welcome. You do not need a running business to apply — a solid, well-developed idea qualifies too.

Four Business Categories

Your business must fit into one of these four categories:

- Production/Manufacturing :  you make or manufacture something

- Trading/Merchandise:  you buy and sell goods

- Service: you provide a service to customers

- Agriculture :  farming, processing, or agribusiness

What You Need Before You Apply

Prepare these before opening the form:

1. School ID card: photo or PDF, maximum 2MB. Must be current and valid.

2. Business proposal document : this is the most important document. It must be in Microsoft Word .docx format, maximum 10 pages, Times New Roman font size 12, single line spacing, maximum 5MB. NANS says "nothing fancy — just clear and complete."

3. CAC or SMEDAN certificate: optional. If your business is registered, upload it. If not, you can still apply.

4. Your 100-word pitch: you will write this inside the form. In 100 words or less, answer: what is the business, why does it matter and what will you do with the funding?

How to Apply — Five Steps

Step 1 : Prepare your documents: school ID, business proposal in Word format, and optionally your business registration certificate

Step 2 :Go to the entry form 👉 https://grants.nanshq.org/apply and fill in your personal details, school information and business information

Step 3 : Upload your files — drag and drop or click to browse

Step 4: Write your 100-word pitch inside the form — keep it short, honest and specific

Step 5: Submit and save your entry code. You will receive a code like NANS-Inv-2026-K7T. Screenshot it — this is how you check your application status later at https://grants.nanshq.org/status

The entire process takes about 15 minutes if your documents are ready.

Important — Scam Warning

NANS never charges any fee at any stage of this programme. Entry is 100% free. If anyone asks you to pay — even someone claiming to be from NANS — it is a scam. Report them immediately to grants@nanshq.org.

Do not pay anyone anything to participate in NANSInnovate 2026.

Insider Tips for a Strong Application

- Your business proposal is what gets you shortlisted — the online form takes 15 minutes but your proposal document is what the review committee actually reads. Treat it seriously. In 10 pages or fewer, clearly explain what your business is, who your customers are, how you make money, what you have achieved so far and exactly what you will do with the funding. Clear structure and honest numbers beat impressive language with no substance

- The 100-word pitch inside the form matters too — this is your first impression before anyone reads your proposal. Make every word count. Name your business, state the problem it solves, mention one concrete result you have achieved or one specific thing you will do with the funding. Do not waste words on generic statements

- Existing businesses have an advantage — while ideas are welcome, the pitch competition favours businesses with evidence of traction. If your business is already running, show it. Revenue, customers, products sold, services delivered — any proof that the idea works in real life

- CAC registration is not required but helps — registering your business is optional for this application. However submitting a CAC or SMEDAN certificate signals that your business is real and serious. If you have one, upload it

- Apply now — 740 entries have already been received. The portal is open but entries are competitive. The earlier you submit, the better your chances of careful review

Common Mistakes to Avoid

- Submitting a business proposal that is not in .docx format — only Microsoft Word files are accepted

- Uploading a school ID that is expired or unclear — make sure it is readable and current

- Writing a vague 100-word pitch — be specific about what you do and what you want to do with funding

- Paying anyone anything — entry is completely free

- Submitting and not saving your entry code — you need this to check your status

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply with just a business idea?

Yes. NANSInnovate accepts both new ideas and existing businesses. However a well-developed idea with a clear business plan is stronger than a vague concept.

What are the prize amounts?

Specific funding amounts have not been publicly disclosed. The programme describes "transparent prizes for the strongest business ideas" awarded at the national pitch finale. Check the NANS website and social media for updates as the summit date approaches.

Do I need to travel to Abuja?

The summit and pitch competition is a physical national event. The Top 20 finalists will need to attend in person. Confirm location and logistics details with NANS directly at grants@nanshq.org.

Can postgraduate students apply?

Is this for all Nigerian states?

Yes. The programme covers all 36 states and FCT — all states are represented in the application form.
